The 5 key steps to building an eLearning program: Step 4 - Content
We are almost at our destination in our 5-step guide to building a successful eLearning program. In previous blogs we have covered off the earlier key steps:
Step 4 in this process is something integral to eLearning management and arguably the most vital of all 5 steps - Content. This either makes or breaks the success of your eLearning programs, so it's not something that you should take lightly.
Two areas should be top-of-mind when creating eLearning content:
- Value. First and foremost, it must be practical and useful to your learners. Ask yourself what they can learn from it. Is it genuinely adding to their current stock of knowledge?
- Structure. This is almost as important as creating residual value. The structure of your content must be clear. Clarity ensures your learners and developers alike will be happy and engaged with the content. Content structure and your design concept are inextricably linked.
With that in mind, when considering your content consider the different elements of your design strategy:
Type - Is it informational, performance strengthening or knowledge building?
Approach - Is the training live or on demand?
Content - Is it developed in house or outsourced or a blend?
Delivery - Will content be delivered via LMS, CD ROM or the inter/intranet?
Assessment - Is it informal or formal? Is it part of a qualification or certification? Will assessments need to be carried out live (using a mobile device for example), or in the classroom?
What do you consider are the vital elements of eLearning content?
